Can Anybody Help Me Out Please?
Ok i Need some help i would really appreciate it i posted a question about an hour ago and i wasn’t satisfied with the answer. so my little brother is 17 years old and he turned himself into the DA today. he had warrants extending up to 1000 dollars. his warrants were for speeding drug possession and drug paraphernalia. hes had a past with the law but hes been in good hands since my family adopted him. im hoping they will give him house arrest or probation. my mom is going with his real mom on monday for his court so she can fight for him and speak in his favor. we got him a public defender because we don’t really got money. the DA wants to give him 3 years but i think this is a little excessive.being he is a minor. can anybody with knowledge of the law please help me out i am very worried.

When he turned himself in, that’s a big positive..

first they will set a bail eventually,if he has no record and depends of the nature of the crime,he will have to make a statment, the thing will drag out for months, make sure that he tells the jusdge that he understands what he did wrong and that hes not a threat to society,he will most likel get of on probation and fines, unless hes been in trouble before

I do not know your brother’s history. It sounds extensive and juvenile judges do not like to see repeat offenders come before them. Best guess scenario is for him to go into a drug program as a sentence. It could be out-patient if there is one close to home. If his record is extensive and there is nothing close by, he could end up in a drug program in the juvenile system in the county or in a state institution for juveniles. If you live in California, the California Youth Authority has one of the best in the country. These programs are generally 6 months to a year. I cannot answer for any other state.

Not sure what you want help with ?
I dont understand what you mean by the warrants extending to 1,000 dollars. Heres how it goes…he will go before the judge on the warrants, speeding, drug possession, drug paraphenalia…The DA can recommend 3 yrs…the judge will be the ultimate deciding factor…If he has been in trouble before this will go against him…Being 17 , depending on your jurisdiction, he can be tried as an adult depending on the severity of the charges.
Sorry , but it doesnt matter what you think he should get..its not your call.
the moms can be in court , but theyre opinion is not going to matter and they will not be called upon to voice their opinion. they can only speak with the public defender and sit in the court room for moral support THIS isnt TV , where the family gets to have a say in what a good guy he is
